I attend Lehman College and am receiving both TAP and PELL grants. I only need to complete 3 more semesters before I graduate and am wondering if I'll be covered for the remainder of this time, especially since I'm taking classes to complete a double major. I've declared a major/minor but I've changed my mind and want to pursue a double major instead because of my areas of interest and with the requirements fulfilling my 120 credit minimum to graduate. I've read that if you complete one major before the other, you wont be eligible for TAP any longer. After this fall semester I'll only need 2 classes in one major of which I planned to take in the remaining 2 semesters, and 5 classes in the second major, 3 which I could take in 1 semester. If TAP will not cover me, can the PELL grant be used to cover my semesters after this fall? Because I've also read that TAP will only cover you if you're taking 12 credits minimum in your major, so since I'll only be taking 1 class for my major after this fall and I don't receive TAP, could I use my PELL instead? I've asked both my financial aid office and counselors at my school and have not received any clear answers, if you can, please help.

start here…

you have to also check with lehman’s policy.

You can get partite tap if you are taking between 6-11 credits.

Yeah I’ve already checked those sites, that’s why I was wondering if PELL would cover my tuition fees if I won’t get TAP since I’ll only be taking one class that counts towards my major for my remaining semesters after this fall. However, I will be taking over 12 credits each of the semesters. The other credits, not counting towards my first major, will count towards my second major. So basically what I’m wondering is if TAP only recognizes one of your majors. Thanks though!

Can you just declare the second major your major, delay taking the last class for the first major until your last semester, and in the final semester take the remaining course for the first major and the remaining course (s) for the second major? (and declare a double major at the last semester)

I was actually thinking about doing that, though I would have to change my major to the second one after the fall semester, but this seems like the best option to allow me to continue to receive aid. I’ll have to re-arrange my plans, haha. Thanks!
