When I took the SAT in 7th grade for Duke TIP, I remember my test center had a big timer on the wall so it was very easy to know how much time I have left. Do all test centers do this, is it a requirement? Because the College Board says to bring a watch (without a timer) so you know how much time you have left but I don’t really own a good watch and if they’re going to put a timer on the wall anyways, I don’t see why I need it.
So do all test centers have a visible timer for us to check throughout each section?
It all depends on the test center. When I took it back in December, the test proctor wrote the start time and the end time on the white board. I also brought along a digital watch to keep track on the time (time pieces are allowed). Our test proctor also gave use a 10 minute warning as well.
In my testing room there wasn’t a “real timer”. There was just a big classroom clock on the wall.
I don’t think so - I only remember having a clock on the front wall. If I remember correctly, they should at least write down start and end times for the current section. If you’re really anxious, you can purchase a cheap watch for under $10.
Hmmm this scares me because I’ve taken about 8 practice tests in the past couple months and for all of them I’ve depended heavily on knowing the exact amount of time I have left… I guess I’ll need to go out and buy a simple watch with a non-beeping timer then. Thank you.
Some of them do. It depends of the proctor. Also I had a big clock and a white board on front of me. Don’t get distracted with time.
They are supposed to, but don’t count on them doing it scrupulously. Manage your time yourself and don’t put yourself at the mercy of proctors, who may or may not be doing their job correctly.
Ask your proctor if he or she will give you a 5 minute warning. Normally the proctors will, assuming none of the students object.
The proctors most likely will give you time warnings. However, it never hurts to come prepared with a watch.
