Eureka! I found out the reason why adcoms would want to talk to each other. :)

Exie don’t bother your time could be better spent elsewhere…

yeah, I wonder what percentage of Exie’s posts are about dispelling this myth? Without looking, my guess is 20%!

Thanks DeerfieldSwede.

Point taken.

Yes, I can imagine that a family/outstanding candidate or recurited athlete etc. gaining a couple of acceptances to rivaling or competitive BSs who need FA, may try to play one off the other to up the anti and get more FA. I wonder if this is when the BSs would talk to each other to say enough is enough, we’ve made our final offers, now choose…

DeerfieldSwede, Welcome back!

Pulsar, you seem pretty smart–smarter than me. What have you learned about applying on the CC board that you can take with you on your journey? Any lessons learned? I am learning that you need a hook and or/contacts at the schools who can advocate for you.

Take home from CC: Without a Hook, you are in a Nook!

Scholwannabe, I don’t think I’m smarter than you. You have got some cool posts. I think you can get the nuggets for admission help by being on CC for a day. Rest is all repetition and rehashing of the old stuff. Remember how some people use their four word vocabulary: fit, self-selection, radar, problem-parent. It gets pretty stale quickly after that. I’m just looking for the next nugget that comes once in a while from someone who thinks out-side-the-box that stumbles onto the scene.

great, thanks, Pulsar!

for colleges absolutely not allowed … nothing that could limit the applicants choices of schools or financial aid packages … and I’d certainly think that BS are held to the same standard.

I can imagine given the size and breadth of the waiting list you will be wished well and told to take it or leave it, or met with stony silence.

Try it at your own risk.

In a word, not likely.

(I really feel for the poor students whose parents are constantly looking for angles to game the system). Financial aid is a gift almost wholly founded by alumni donations, not a entitlements for applicants looking to play schools off each other. There is also nothing to stop a school from withdrawing a letter of acceptance. That too, was a gift.
