...or would you recommend buying a personal printer for your dorm?

Yeah, the library has printers but they charge you 10 cents / page. A lot of departments have their own printers and free printing for people in the major/minor. If you have the space it might be a good idea to get your own printer, just for convenience.

^ What about the houses? I have heard AMRs etc. have printing rooms.

As far as I remember, all the printers on campus that are in public computer areas (library, HAC (Hopkins Academic Computing) lab, computer clusters in the dorms) charge for printing. (Of course, this is two year old information so YMMV)

I invested in a laser printer my freshman year, and it has been with me for the past six years I’ve been a student at JHU.

I definitely recommend getting a printer for your room. I worked out a deal with my roommate which essentially was that I would buy the printer, and he would buy paper and replacement ink cartridges when needed. It worked out for the both of us since we needed to print out a lot of notes/papers/etc and the cost was essentially split between us.

hopkid - that is interesting. I am guessing the deal was struck for a laser printer since inkjets require a fairly cheap toner?
