I am an Indian, and I recently received acceptance letters for the mechanical engineering program from UC San Diego, Davis and Irvine. I was also offered a 50k scholarship (spread over 4 years) by UC Davis. I am really keen on attending San Diego’s engineering program, and I wanted to know if the university provides any merit based scholarship for international students from the second year onwa.rds
The UCs are California state public schools funded by the state and by private donations. Each school has different endowments. The UCs recently announced that they will limit funding to OOS and international students because they font have the money.
If you weren’t offered funding for the first year, they can’t offer it for any years following that.
International students are admitted for their full pay status, $220k for 4 years. State residents don’t like their tax money going to nonresidents.
Also consider the major in engineering; jobs in the US for engineering are limited and based on US security clearances. It is expected that non-US citizens will return to their countries after their education.
I do not know if they offer merit scholarships specifically for International students but here is a link for scholarships available for continuing undergrad students meaning 2nd year and above.
