Do these large schools focus on undergrad education?

Still in the narrowing down process in making my college list. From my question earlier, I found out that the better undergraduate schools focus on teaching undergraduates. Seems simple, but totally blew out of my mind.

Anyway, do these schools focus on graduate or undergraduates? Do you know anything about the teaching quality in these schools?

Rice (i know not really large...)
UMich
UIUC
Cornell

Thanks in advance.

Rice really focuses on undergraduates. I'd very much so recommend it for undergrad, but not necessarily for grad school. Professors at Rice really, really care that their undergrads understand what's going on in their classes and welcome students in during their office hours, either to help with the course material or just to chat.

UIUC, in my experience, is sort of the opposite... Phenomenally talented research professors who give incredible (but often inaccessible) lectures, and the goings-on of the class are largely handled by graduate students, even for graduate-level courses. It's sort of like hearing a really incredible guest lecturer every single day... Okay for graduate school, but I'm not sure I'd have wanted it while I was still trying to decide whether or not I wanted to be an engineer

adding more colleges:

UCBerk
Georgia Instiute
Northwestern
Virginia Tech
Case Western

georgia tech definately focuses more on research than the undergrads..that's one of the most common complaints from students there.

Same thing is true of Berkeley, from what I've heard from my colleagues there... Definitely large, easy to get lost in the crowd, and focused on major graduate research.

If you want schools that focus on undergrad education, trying looking for LAC''s such as harvey mudd, rose hulman, olin
