do they brag about rejecting 1600's?

do you guys think that Columbia brags about how many 1600's they reject (that is, ppl who got 800m and 800v), just a small worry....

I don't think any school would reject a 1600 for the sake of bragging rights. At the most selective schools, though, a 1600 isn't the automatic acceptance that it would be at schools that admit primarily or exclusively on stats. If you are fortunate enough to be at that level, don't worry - it won't hurt, and will almost certainly help.

i agree with roger. i've never heard of people worrying about sat being too high

lol, i know its absurd

it's ridiculous, but i think i know what ironchef is talking about, i was there this summer for the hs study program, and the dean of admissions gave a talk about how they rejected all but 13% of perfect scores last year

Schools don't brag about rejecting smart people that are a good fit for the school. If every 1600 was a good fit and well rounded, showed a genuine interest in Columbia, etc., they'd all be accepted.

i just don't buy that 13% statistic. harvard takes half of the 1600s who apply, so why would Columbia, which is a little less selective take significantly fewer from this pool?

actually columbia isn't less selective. if u look at the admit rate u will be surprised esp. RD round. Columbia is the only IVY school in which the number of application has increased over the years while the accepted number of people have gone down.

Columbia rep at my school said they reject 2/3s of 1600s - maybe u turned 33% into 13. But that number is lower than Harvards I believe; to me the number doesn't say columbia's more selective than Harvard, just about as selective and they stress other factors.

admit rate isn't only factor into selectivity

well yes but harvard is not more selective than columbia my point. not that columbia is more selective than harvard.

you're seriously telling me you don't think harvard's harder to get into than columbia?

i mean other way around, sorry

Jess, if you're trying to say that Harvard's more selective than Columbia, then you had it right the first time, no need for it to be "the other way around."

that's what i meant, i got all jumbled around sorry
