I’m torn.

Not really, beebee.

Why not? There IS a lot of symbolism out there.

OMG beebee, get offa dat webbie.

No.

I believe in governments that are explicitly authoritarian, and in governments that are becoming explicitly authoritarian, and in people who like iPhones so much that they don’t care about trends towards authoritarianism in their currently-free homelands.

I see no need for conspiracies to that effect, especially since the main theories seem only to exist because of schizophrenia and because of an overconsumption of Dan Brown novels. Also, to a lesser extent, people seem to get them from the National Treasure movies.

I have a cousin who is a Free Mason. They really don’t do anything. It’s like a social club, about as dangerous as the Elks or the American Legion.

Illuminati is everywhere

No.

People are too quick to form ridiculous conclusions when they see a series of coincidences.

I find it hilarious that people will form conclusions such as the Illuminati from a series of coincidences, but many of the same are so quick to dismiss science, which develops conclusive, proven results.

But alas, they are “just theories.”

most people respect science because they respect people who respect science.

who you respect is kind of not up to you (at least not in your early years). it seems understandable that you would dismiss science if the people who you respected did not respect science, since that is the reason that most people respect science.

The Illuminati theory isn’t convincing because the proponents always resort to “it’s an all-encompassing conspiracy; you’re being deluded into thinking that it doesn’t exist” whenever one tries to argue against its nonexistence.

JimboSteve kind of took the words out of my mouth. I was going to say something along the lines of, “No, reading Angels and Demons did NOT convince me that the Illuminati were real,” but there you have it.

No, I don’t believe it. People just point to a bunch of random things and say those are the signs of Illuminati.
Illuminati was a real group in the late 1700s though.

While this is probably true, it’s quite sad and is definitely not understandable. People should think for themselves. I don’t respect science because the people around me respect science, I respect it because it’s proven and logical. I wouldn’t believe that a magical fairy had come to earth if people I respected did. If there is no evidence, there is no reason to believe it.

@OP Illuminati is a thing not a statement, so I can’t comment on its validity. The Wikipedia page on Illuminati will probably have the best info. :D

im part of the illuminati

I think we all pretty much respect things, because we’re taught too. Modern society tells us that logic is supreme, which is what leads so many people to respect science.

This is a flawed argument. You see, logic is not something that is taught. It is just, well, logical. For example, the theory of gravity. The logical way to support this theory is through careful, repeated observation. Of course it is supported, and with an almost infinite amount of data. I don’t agree with the theory of gravity because of “modern society,” but instead because it is easy to believe. People have doubted unproven claims since the beginning of time - think about the beginnings of philosophy and modern science, they weren’t created because someone told them it was a respectable thing to do, but rather because logic is inherently believable.

“If there is no evidence, there is no reason to believe it” Very true, but how do you explain the belief of god and the supernatural?

See, not everyone agrees with me on this point. Some people believe that faith trumps logic and reason. I don’t.

I should also add that I disagree that modern society tells us to respect logic over faith - while this surely occurs in many places, there still remain many others where people scoff at science and reason.
