Do you even need to major in finance, business, accouting, etc, to work in Business?

Seems the big talk as of lately is that there are too many business, finance, accounting, econ majors, and business employers are looking for candidates with "critical thinking" and "technical skills" to fit the finance spots. Is it advisable to be a finance or business major or will these positions be stumped by engineers and CS majors with MBAs? Are employers looking for quantitative degrees or will a business degree satisfy?

No. I have an MBA; I had a liberal arts education. I own my own business, and when I hire someone, I am looking for: relevant job skills, ability to work with others, and job experience. When I hire new graduates, I look for: communication skills (can they send a resume and email without typos? Can they speak well and are they articulate?), job experience (doesn’t matter what it was – were they able to get a job and keep it and get a good recommendation from it)?

A business major with no job experience or social skills or communication skills is less valuable than any other major with job experience and an ability to establish connections, foster relationships, and get along with other people.
