guys sooo do you think I would be competitive for pitt??

Yeah, you will be fine. You are 10 points off of the cutoff for automatic first semester honors eligibility (I still suggest you take a UHC class) so you should be just fine for admissions.

Get in your app early. Maybe improve your SAT a bit and you would probably get a nice scholarship though you might anyways.

Your prospective major has no impact on admissions decision.

Hope to see you around campus in a few years.

hey thnx for the chance, btw I was wondering how is the city of pitt?? I am indian, sooo i was wondering if there is a good indian population in the skool and if there are cultural clubs???

I have read somewhere along the way that Pittsburgh has the third highest population of Indians in the United States. There is a great Indian restaurant right next to campus ([India Garden](http://www.indiagarden.net/)), although I guess your opinion of it can vary based on the region you are from or used to.

Here is the first part of a five part documentary made by the local PBS station about the Indian community in Pittsburgh: [OnQ OnDemand: India In Pittsburgh](http://www.wqed.org/ondemand/onq.php?cat=19&id=480)

You might also be interested to know that the Indian community in Pittsburgh came together to build the [Indian Nationality Room](http://www.pitt.edu/~natrooms/countries/indian.html) one of the 27 Nationality Rooms in the university’s Cathedral of Learning.

And here is a link to the Pitt student club Indian Sub-Continent Association: [ISA - Indian Sub-Continent Association @ the University of Pittsburgh](http://www.pitt.edu/~sorc/isa/)

wow wgmcp101!! those links are soooo helpful.

If Pittsburgh has the third highest population of Indians in the US, I haven’t really seen that kind of representation at Pitt. There are Indians here, but from what I have seen nowhere near as much compared to the representation at Rutgers (the flagship public at my home state).

Pitt is 4-5% Asian, Rutgers’ Asian population is around 20%. Those statistics would include both South and East Asians, so the % of Indians should be less than that.

The high population of Indians in the city is due to the fact that the region had the first Hindu temple built in the US (1976) in Penn Hills. I don’t know whether that rank is still true, but I’m sure I heard/read it from a legitimate source at one point in the last decade, but I don’t have a link specifically stating the rank.

I don’t know about Pitt itself, two of my best friends at Pitt were Indian (both raised in the US): one Hindu one Catholic. Neither participated in the Indian student groups but maybe they made me notice things more as I did sense a substantial Indian community in city, if not at Pitt itself. Of course, two of my other best friends were Colombian, so I don’t know what that means.

So digging around, I found the fact that the Indian community is the third largest ethnic community in the Pittsburgh region. [url=HugeDomains.com]source[/url]

That was probably the stat I heard that was told wrong or I remembered wrong. Sorry for any confusion. Still there is a large population in Pittsburgh compared to a lot of areas due to the fact that Pittsburgh did have the first Hindu Temple in the US.
guys I just got mailed home a application for pitt. this feels wayyyyyy to early to apply to colleges or even think about them deeply. is this normal getting mailed apps this early?

It’s an easy application. It seems as though a fair number of students apply to Pitt over the summer at some of the information sessions. Apply early; hear early.

since I got the app, by when should i apply?

i was thinking in late july, early august. is this too early?

update: I just got a mail of my schedule and have an option of changing it by the end of the week.

This is what I have signed up to take:
AP Lit
AP Comparative
AP Bio
AP Physics
Human Anatomy and Physiology
AP Calc AB
Engineering Physics 2

This is what I want to do now:
AP Lit
AP Compartive
AP Bio
Human Anatomy and Physiology
Exploring Health Sciences
Exploring Language of Medicine
AP Calc AB

the first is much more rigorous, but the second one is the one i am more interested in? i only chose the 1st list cause my parents forced me

does pitt have a 7 year medical program?? one of my friends said they did and tried looking for it onlione but couldn’t find it, any help??

I think you should choose the schedule that you are most interested in, as you have enough AP courses in the second list. You may be underestimating the time & work involved with all those AP courses at once. Remember that you don’t want to hurt your GPA by taking a course load that may be too rigorous. My daughter was accepted as a Neuro major, and only had 6 AP courses in high school. (our school did not offer as many choices as yours)

There is a guaranteed acceptance program to Pitt Medical School, but you have to be invited to interview for it. If you search on this board, you will find some previous threads with stats of past students invited to interview. They were top students, with near perfect standardized test scores and GPA’s. Unless the application has changed for this year, all you need to do is check the box that asks if you are interested in pre-med.
