Do you have a cellphone just for travel?

Do you have a cellphone you use just for travel? I’m going to be going on a trip this summer (finally!) to visit family in a large city and plan on doing a few days sightseeing. I’m planning on using my cellphone to take pics, figure out transit directions, bring up maps, etc.

And I got to thinking how much of my life is on the phone and how bad it would be to lose it, especially in another city far from home. I have email, bank apps, a garage door opener, pictures, you name it. So I was thinking of getting an inexpensive 2nd phone and just loading a few apps onto it, then buying a cheap SIM such as from Cricket on a pay-as-you-go plan and just using it for 1 month service. I don’t have any old cellphones laying around unfortunately.

Do other people have a phone they use just for travel, or is this too much worry? I feel a bit sheepish for asking, I guess this is a 1st-world problem.

This is what cloud backups are for. I’m on my 3rd phone in 12 months (long story) and each time restoring is no more than clicking “restore from cloud backup”. You generally need to do some fresh logging in to sites and apps on the new device, but even if you forget the passwords you just use the reset password feature.

I have another phone for international travel that I can swap sim cards in and out of depending on where I am.

My same phone goes with me wherever I go, this side of the world or the other. As a pp has said, backup is good, though I haven’t needed it (yet).

No. I have find my iPhone on the phone. I backup my phone. If it were to be lost or stolen, I would get another phone where I was. I also have an iPad that has 99.9% of the same info on it.

It would be a huge pain to get a new phone. But I guess I don’t see a point of 2 phones. Seems like I would have 2 things to keep track of.

A cheapo phone will have a cheapo phone camera.

A friend has a newer phone with the super duper camera. It really makes a big difference.

My iPhone locks after a few minutes, has biometric security, and can be remotely wiped, so I’m not worried about what’s on it. It’s also backup up regularly, so I’m not concerned about losing anything.

And after 30+ countries, 47 states, and 8 provinces, I’ve never lost one, so I’m not concerned.
