Did your friend leave or did he kick the guy’s butt for trying to ruin his good time?

Alcohol does more harm than marijuana - if you abuse it. That’s the bright-line. Alcohol has its benefits, in moderation.

The same harms can be found in marijuana, if not more.

PS; Marijuana is a gateway drug. Bottoms up!
PPS; OP - It’s your choice. Just don’t go crazy.

Well if your going to a party and you just drink moderately whats the difference than just drinking root beer in a cup and whats the difference when you hook up with a girl?

Smoking isn’t risk-free, either. As I understand it, marijuana can be even more cancer-causing than cigarettes and you’re still impaired (so driving accidents are not out of the question).

I prefer engaging in neither.

^ There has been no link found between marijuana and cancer.

one study doth not proof make ~

Few things in life are risk-free. I think alcohol does more damage to your body and to society in general, but weed has more legal penalties. It also does often give you the connects for harder drugs…what you do with those connects is up to you. I wouldn’t disagree that it’s a gateway drug, but only to some people.

Honestly, I don’t think it does.

I still don’t understand why our country makes a big deal about it being illegal. If you get caught with a little bit, you get a slap on the wrist.

back on topic…If you don’t want to drink, you shouldn’t have to. If anything, like others said, just get a glass of root beer or something.

Yup. If you don’t drink they’re going to point at you and laugh. And they may even call you a doo-doo head. :(

What a stupid question. Of course you don’t have to drink. In fact, it is probably smarter if you don’t. It is your choice. If you want to then do it, if you don’t, good for sticking your grounds. Anyone who “rejects” you for not drinking, is not worth your time anyways

If you don’t want to drink, then don’t.

Just make sure that you have like apple juice or something on hand to poor into a Solo cup so that everyone assumes you’re drinking. After a while, the drunks won’t even notice that you’re totally sober.

Well, I don’t know how old you are, but if you’re going to be a freshman like me then you’re probably 17 or 18…anyways, clearly not old enough to legally drink. Now, for me, I’m not opposed to drinking, but I don’t see why I have to drink before I’m 21…so I’m not going to. Then, when I am 21, I’ll have a drink or two at parties and that will be that. I’m not joining a sorority or anything, so I don’t see myself in too many situations where I would be pressured to drink anyways.

Any decent fraternity does not let freshmen drink at all. It is the reason that risk management is such a big deal in modern Greek life, and why it is a position that is many times even more prominent than social chair.

There are many Greeks that do not drink, and they are considered especially valuable (it is a blessing to have at least a handful of sober people when problems arise, and they will… something is always breaking during a party, or there are noise complaints, or someone lost something… the list goes on and on.

There are also Greek organizations like Farmhouse that traditionally do not drink (though this rule has relaxed at many chapters)

Unless you have some way for your body to gain fluids intravenously, I would say yes you do have to drink.

^Uh, why? Have the three previous pages of posts not provided an acceptable answer?

No, absolutely not. No Greek clubs can make you drink alcohol, or even sodas. If you don’t want to drink something, just don’t drink it. It might feel weird or tempting to drink, but you don’t have to. Many brothers and sisters in frat/soros did not drink until they are well over 21.
