Do I need to give a record of all my classes and extra-curriculars from Grade 9?? Or only from Grade 11?

Do you mean on the Common App? The information will be for grades 9-12.

The OP is from Australia according to his posting history.

Yes, at American colleges, all info from grades 9-12 will be required on the application.

Your classes, yes, all of them, with grades. I don’t think anyone cares whether you report all your ECs or not - but you aren’t allowed to invent any. Do you have a particularly embarrassing EC you’d rather not report, like Morris dancing?

LOL

Also, “give a record” is what you choose to list. If there are minor things, you’re free to omit them. Also, if you’re wondering, you do NOT support evidence of these – colleges take your word on it.

Technically, if I remember the common app correctly, YOU don’t report anything other than your total GPA (from 9-12), test scores, and senior year schedule. It’s your counselor who will send in your transcript with your grades, classes, etc which should corroborate your self reported GPA.
If you’re applying to a UC (Berkeley, Davis, LA, San Diego…) you do have to self report all grades and classes from 9-12th grade as well as test scores. The UC system will then calculate a GPA for you.

While saif is correct in technicality, using up all of the space in EC’s and awards is a good idea.

I’m from Australia, in Grade 9 right now. I’m really confused because i thought we only submit our EC’s and grades from Year 11 onwards? Because in Australia, there aren’t many oppurtunites here - e.g no clubs, extra curriculars min. age limit is 16 (and doesn’t get accounted for). Also, we don’t have such thing as a GPA. In Year 11, I plan to move to ISWA - the only school in AUS with AP classes and are clubs that America has. That is when I will be doing most of my extra-curricular, because this school is like an american school, and has all those clubs extra credits ect. So what is going to happen?

Also, on our report, it simply states our class and grade. I’m in Extension, but it doesn’t say “extension”. I just has a grade, no GPA. And we can’t chose our own classes until Year 11!!! Also, OP is only in Queensland.

Also, in Grade 11 when I transfer to the ISWA, it follows the American dates. Starting in late July. In Australia, we start from Feb, so basically I will be graduating a half year later.

Because ISWA, follows the American system, and does GPA, credits ect. When I provide a record of my grades from 9-12, how are the going to convert it, because I will have GPA in 11 and 12, but not 9 and 10.

What if my grades are A/B in grade 9, but A’s in 10,11,12? And what if I don’t have EC’s in 9, but in 10,11 and 12 I have heaps? Will grade 9 adversely affect my chances?

9th grade typically doesn’t affect your application too much.
In terms of ECs as long as you show that you care about what you do and you’ve stayed dedicated to certain activities for a few years you should be fine. No one expects you to know exactly what you wan to do right when you enter high school.
@PengsPhils i was talking about the “academics” section on the common app. Of course you should include as many ECs as you can in the common app, but I was trying to clear up a point about what a student reports vs a GC.
