Gpa question...

In common app, do I need to write all the grades that I got from each course I took from 9th to 12th grade OR do I only write the GPA from each year.

What section of the common app? Academics? That little box at the top of Academics only has space to write your total GPA and class rank… unless you’re talking about being a transfer instead of a freshman, in which case I have no idea.

really? so all the Bs and As aren’t shown? only out of 5 or 4 is shown in average?

wait it asks for a transcript? like one that shows ALL my grades? so, on a piece of paper, they will see all my grades from 9th to 12th grade?

^Yes, that’s what a transcript is.
You don’t report all your grades, just your cumulative GPA, which is your grade point average from 9th to 11th grade.

so does it ask for a transcript or no

Of course it asks for a transcript!! Every college will need all transcripts involved with your education from 9th grade and up. The transcript is sent by your school either electronically or in paper form, you don’t send it personally. Your counselor should take care of that.

^^^^^^^does it work like that too, in canada??

that sucks. I was in turkey for high school from 9th to 11th grade. it was EXTREMELY difficult. Grading was out of 5 and it was great if you have a 3. and in the report card, it was like if u have 2 in 1st somestre and 3 in 2nd, you get a 3!!! But now my school sent the transcript and they took the average! was so not expecting it… cause i mean thats not how it is in the reportcard :frowning:
I have a 57 average out of 100. which means 3.0 or something… But it looks HORRIBLE LOL A 57???

If thats on a 100 point scale then that’s a 2.28/4. Your GPA (C/B avg) qualifies you for a lot of colleges! Don’t worry! If their education weren’t good enough for a degree, then they wouldn’t be a college. Wherever you go, you will get a good education.

That doesn’t make any sense though! I had 3/5 and It is a GOOD score in my school. It shouldnt be same to a 2.28! I have to get in either Fordham Or Loyola Marymount… Theatre major… But now its all ruined because of this complicated gpa? I mean in Turkey 5/3 is GOOD!!! I can’t believe this! and my school was extremely difficult! they can’t compare the international student grades to americans just like that!!! in my school it was amazing iff you just PASS!! Teachers NEVER gave a 5/5 ever! and it was a FRENCH school in turkey, so french was 13 hours a week and the most difficult class ever! 14 people failed in my class and there were 30 people in my class! so half FAILED FRENCH.

im so sad that this is happening… I don’t deserve it to say 2.28 in my gpa :frowning: It’s so not fair!!! its considered good in my french school :(

If what you’re saying is true, then you still should have kept a good class rank. If your school didn’t rank, then it will include its average GPA maintained and the GPA of its Valedictorian, along with a whole bunch of other information to help college admissions personnel understand the meaning of your grade. All of that is included in the International Supplement to the secondary school report.

Just make sure you get in all your transcripts and school reports from all high school you attended, and you’ll be fine.

Don’t worry that they won’t know a 3/5 is good for your school.

Don’t freak out before you speak with your guidance counselor. I’m sure they have ways of noting the differences in the school and the rigor and all of that. And I would get their estimate of your current gpa and class rank, also.
