Graduation is your parent’s chance to say goodbye to the child they once knew. It’s their chance to see you in the spotlight, and consider that, for that brief shining moment, you have unlimited potential.
It’s not about “your parents paid a lot of money for your education” or any other “excuse.”
I’ve sweated through a lot worse than the annual graduation ceremony.
What “chance to say goodbye to the child they once knew”? My mother has never once been supportive of me and abused me when I was a child.
You’ve clearly never sat out in 100+ degree weather, then. There’s a difference between sweating underneath your grad robes because the robes feel stuffy, and sweating underneath your grad robes because it is 100+ degrees out. Are you saying that people living in places with hot summers should just deal with it if their graduation ceremony is held outside? You know that there are people who get heat stroke from being out in extremely hot weather for a long period of time, right?
Deep breaths. I was expressing an opinion, not speaking to any one individual. There’s no way I could have known that your mom abused you, and I’m sorry that happened.
Feel free to disagree.
I’ve gone to a graduation every single year since 1980. Not once has anyone ever passed out or gotten heat stroke. My guess is that if it were a regular occurrence in your school, they would make alternate plans.
If you want to stay home, stay home.
But my point is that sometimes we do things for other people. In my opinion, graduation is one of those things. Once again, your mileage may vary.
