I know working hard is the most important factor when it comes to academics, but does working hard with a low IQ only get you so far?

how does IQ have anything to do with this? ?

I don’t have any Stats to back this up but it is hard for me to imagine someone without a high IQ succeeding. I think people underestimate elite college students all the time. I was never a fan of George W Bush but I hated when people criticized his intellect. No doubt his family name helped him get into Yale but the level of study at these colleges is intense. It takes smarts AND hard work.

Most kids I know in the parochial school track since nursery have never even taken an IQ test. It’s not something given in a lot of private school settings. What the relationship these days between IQ and college entry exams are, I don’t konow. What do you define as high and low anyways? I think those with a low IQ, like in the lower 10 percent of the normal range on down, are not likely to pursue the academics at that level. IQ tests have proven accurate on the lower levels, which was what they were heavily used for, but not so in the upper levels. I have one kid who has IQ test scores all over the place --he was tested a number of times due to heavy duty medical treatments, which also may have affected him cognitively. But he also got near perfect SAT1 scores. So you go figure.

I think you have to be pretty smart to get into an Ivy League school, regardless of what people like to think.

well an IQ of 100 is the average, I would thought to go to Harvard, Yale etc. you would need a 130+ and be extremely hard working to get into those places and do well. But I would think someone with any IQ in the range of 90-110 could get into a really good college, but you would need to be naturally smart to go to the Ivy League.

Am I the only one that thinks IQ tests are out of date and about as worthless as every other form of standardized testing - SAT included?

So if someone gets a 2350 on the SAT, you think that, on average, that means nothing about their intelligence?
