Do you have to take the math placement?

I am a freshman sociology major do i have to take the math placement test during orientation or at all?

From a UCSC email:

Who should plan on taking the Math Placement Exam at Summer Orientation?
Students who have not completed a transferable college or university math class, who did not complete an AP Calculus exam with a score of 3 or higher, and who are considering any of the following majors should take the Math Placement Exam at Summer Orientation:
• All majors in the Baskin School of Engineering
• All majors in the Physical and Biological Sciences
• Any Economics major
• Environmental Studies
• Transfer students in Psychology

Take it if you think you’ll be taking a math class for Fall Quarter.

Did they specify what time we had to be there/how long it would take? I remember reading that email, but no recollection of specific times.

So this math placement test determines what math class we going to take? But we sign up classes the same day as we take the test, then how we going to sign up for math class if the score is not out yet?

@PhantomBMAN “The 90-minute, 60 question, multiple-choice exam covers algebra and some geometry and trigonometry.” - [UCSC Mathematics Placement Exam Info](http://www.math.ucsc.edu/placement/index.html)

Not exactly sure when we take it during Orientation but hopefully its somewhere around the 9am-12pm.

@ryanpan Well, hopefully they could possibly grade it right there. It’s multiple choice so it shouldn’t take too long to grade. I’m guessing we take the test in the morning portion of the Orientation and then pick our classes after the test or later on.

Does anyone know what we miss at orientation while we take the exam? I mean, what do all the non-test takers do for 90 minutes?

Well, I hope they could do that too

Pretty sure they just do whatever we do after. I doubt we’re gonna be busy the entire time at orientation, it’s probably a “come in, do your stuff, and leave” type thing.

Edit: Thanks for the info Just ^_^

lol Your welcome.
