Do you need to get a masters degree to get a job with an Economics bachelors?

I’ve heard multiple people say that you won’t get hired anywhere with just the bachelors. If you major Econ. You need to have a masters at least. But I wanted to finish college as quickly as possible…

Depends on where you get your degree and what kind of job you want. Additionally, most top grad schools expect people to work in a substantial job for at least 2-5 years before they will be viable candidates for admission.

If you are at a top undergraduate school, economics majors can most definitely place well without a graduate degree. You must also differentiate between business econ, economic theory, and econometrics which are very different tracks. The issue for most economics majors is the breadth of applicability and popularity as it and pre-med are some of the most widely declared majors within most arts & science departments. If you know what career you want to pursue, then it will make the recruiting process much easier. A lot of students that come into college without a major in mind begin with economics because it seems practical and general but don’t plan ahead in terms of what career they want and end up having a mismatch of skills or interests.

You could pursue a master’s degree immediately after undergrad but that is typically more for those who are looking to take an academic track to economics.

You definitely get a job with a BA or BS in econ. Having some good stats background and knowledge of various statistical software packages can help, but econ students can get hired in positions that are looking for general business type backgrounds as well.
