Do you need to take a physics class before taking the ap physics class to do well?

I plan on taking ap physics my senior year, but i don't know how well I will do. By senior year, it will be 3 years since i've taken physics (8th grade). Because of scheduling issues, I can't seem to fit in a physics class before the ap class. I will ,however, be taking calculus concurrently. How much prior physics knowledge do you need to do well? Will I be okay with just calculus?

Not really. My first encounter with physics was via an AP Physics B online course, and I did very well on it. A 96% on the course, a 5 on the exam, and a 750 on the subject test.

Thanks! Lol… I just realized i posted this thread twice accidently…

I think it depends on your school and teacher. I just finished honors physics and it was extremely difficult for most of the kids in my class, myself included. My school doesn’t offer AP physics, but if they did, I guarantee you none of the students who took honors at my school this year would sign up for AP next year if we had the option. It was so much work and so hard, but then again all our tests were for real trick questions and my class’ average test grades were usually around ~75%. And there were people in my class who are in BC Calc that were still struggling with honors physics. But then again, one of my friends is taking AP physics in another state and he says he has an A. He hasn’t taken honors physics before and says he enjoys the class and doesn’t find it as challenging as his other AP classes (and this guy is by no means a super genius or anything). So it really depends on the teacher. If I were you then I’d ask your friends who have already taken AP Physics at your school how difficult they think it is.

No. I know somebody taking AP Physics without taking Honors Physics. He’s getting an A.

At my school there is no honors physics. Just regular and AP/IB. The kids on the AP/IB track who opt to take physics take it without any prior knowledge.
