Do you prefer a formal or informal college visit?

<p>With my S we did either the big visit day, or the formal presentation and tour with a student guide. My D decided she wanted to visit schools after acceptance so we are starting to plan ahead for those we think we will visit. She has a friend who likes to do the informal – just show up with a map and walk around – visits.</p>

<p>Which of the three types do you prefer and why?</p>

<p>We preferred the formal visit primarily because there was a record of our visit, which helped in the case of colleges that considered demontrated interest. Informal visits worked for us if we were visiting a cluster of colleges in an area and we did not have time to have a formal visit at each.</p>
