Do You Regret Your Chosen Major?

I sort of feel that I chose the wrong major for the wrong reasons. I mean, politics is interesting but it is not something that I want to study for 2 more years at a university. I chose to major in political science because I have an interest in law and I plan to go to law school in the future. Right now, I am preparing for my back-up major (Business Administration) just in case things don't go my way. I don't really know enough about the other areas of political science to confidently say that I chose the right major for me. What do you guys think of your situations? Discuss.

i'm very happy with my major choices. :)

Although I currently hate my economics professor and I'm only an upper freshman, I'm happy with majoring in economics. It was either business or economics, and since I'm probably going to pursue an MBA, I thought it would make more sense to major in economics.

Economics rocks cause its a social science while also using math a lot, and I enjoy math and am good at it. My highest grades are generally in the social sciences and math (as opposed to language, arts, or sciences) so being good at something makes it easier to like it.

And by majoring in eco, one keeps their career options open, as there are a lot of firms that would hire an eco major.

Lastly, its fun and knowledge of economic gives insight to a lot of political/social arguments.

hehe... funny, i'm an econ/biz major as well. the tough part is thinking about my the double major (poli sci? (consulting/policy), math (finance/consulting), far east studies(international jobs/consulting/policy) etc etc). i would like to do all of these .

I know how you feel Nikkei. I'm a cultural anthro major and I love the discipline, but looking back, sometimes I think I chose it because I wanted to be a scientist in order to prove I was smart or something. Anthro was the easiest way to become one. I kinda wish I had gone into film production design or costume design. I think I would be passionate about that, whereas I'm just really interested in anthro.

I was thinking of majoring in East Asian Studies (international business) as well.

plus native level of fluency in a second language would help. although, if you're a 2nd-gen Asian-American like me :p then you'd have to take those courses as well as

I am still undeclared and in my mind I have changed my major like 3 times so far. HTH.

hehe. I'm a 4th generation Asian-American so I had to start from the very bottom. Although my dad was born in Asia, he didn't bother teaching me my own language.

you should consider the fact that MOST people who apply to law schools have a degree in poly scie, so .. poly scie may prepare you the best for law school, but haveing a diffrerent degree would make you stand out more and maybe something that could get you into a top tier school. Or minor in something that is outside the realm of the average law school applicant, like math .. or something of that nature.

That is one of the reasons why I regret choosing my major. I wanted to major in business that way I have something to fall back on just in case I didn't want to go to law school. Despite this, I think political science is a good major for me after all since I was considering on going into International Business, although I think East Asian Studies would have been the better major for a career in that field.

just double in business/poly scie
that way your prepared for law school, and your prepared for an MBA if you want.

Yeah, looking back I now wish I had majored in underwater modern dance or something- that way i'd have a better chance to get into UCLA than I do as an Econ major !
:-)

Blah. Too late for that since I already applied to UCs in November.

why not double major after u get in~ ;)

Can you? I thought you couldn't change your major after you got admitted to your first choice major.

i'm not sure u could change yur first choice major (although i remember reading a post about somebody changing from pre-bizecon to econ at ucla), but why not add something to the major you already chose. at any rate, it might be something u want to pursue. :)

True. I mean it's not like I blindly chose to major in Political Science. It is a very interesting subject to me. I may consider minoring in business, depending on what university I attend.
