Do you think I'd be able to get into Marshall with these credentials?

Hey guys, what's up? I'm going to be a junior next year and I want to go to business school, USC has always been my dream school.

Asian (Filipino)

Living in Alaska

Top 2% of my class (graduating class is around 450 students, ranked 5th of out 459)

4.0 GPA freshman year, 4.16 GPA sophomore year, expecting 4.66 junior year and 4.5 senior year (I'm going to maintain straight A's, which would lead to a 4.33 cumulative GPA and hopefully valedictorian)

4.0 unweighted GPA

Took 1 AP class (US History) last year, taking 4 (Spanish, Econ, Lang, Chem) next year and 3 (Stats, Calc, Psych) my senior year

Key Club (2 years projected)

National Honor Society (3 years projected)

Yearbook editor (also doubled as the financial manager, handled our budget)

Varsity football (2 years as a junior and senior)

Haven't taken SATs and ACTs yet, but expecting to get around 2200 and 34 on them

Got a 218 on my PSAT, which qualified me for Semifinalist if I was a junior but I took the test as a sophomore. Is that half tuition thing true?

Do you think I'd be able to get in? I checked the stats thread, but a lot of those are from CA.

In.
Being from Alaska is REALLY helpful.

If all goes accordingly, youl prolly get in

Bump 10 char

ASSUMING you keep up your excellent grades, I think you definitely have a good shot. SEE YOU IN THE FALL OF 2012 BRAH.

You’ve got a great start man - don’t predict straight A’s too quickly with only half your HS career finished and the hardest ahead, but I like that you’re confident and already looking ahead. If all of that pans out, I think USC would be more than glad to have you; and another filipino would be awesome too :)

^ are there a lot of filipinos in USC

From my own experience, there aren’t very many; I only met like 3-4 other Filipinos my freshman year. There is a Filipino culture club called Troy Phi, but I didn’t get the chance to check them out - but maybe I will next year!

if you keep up the good grades… welcome to USC!!!

Thanks guys. Just wondering, what’s Marshall known for? How is the recruiting?

What I meant was, I know about the Trojan family, but do any big firms recruit at Marshall? I’m planning to specialize in corporate finance. If not, then it’s no biggie. USC is still my #1.

Accounting in leventhal is excellent, entrepreneurship is ranked top 5 too, everything else in Marshall is top 10 material. I saw a list of top recruiters on the marshall website

The “1/2 tuition thing” is true, but it is only for NMS and therefore would not apply to scores you received as a sophomore. What were your scores as a Junior? Junior-year PSAT scores are the only ones used in determining NMF and NMS.

I know that, I haven’t taken it was a Junior yet. I expect to get around the same score and get NMF though.

Ahhh… so you are a rising junior? Yes, the 1/2 tuition Presidential Scholarship is given to NMS who are accepted to USC and name USC as their first-choice school by the deadline (which I believe is May of your application year… someone jump in and correct me if I am wrong!). It is 1/2 of *tuition *only - not room/board and expenses. NMS also get an extra $1,000/year from National merit Corporation.

Good luck on the PSAT!!!
