I wonder about those of you with perfect 4.0's and all APs. Is your school actually challenging? Or is it easy and you prep for the actual AP exams by yourselves?

Because personally... I have a 'horrible' record compared to the average CCer.
Grade 9: A-, A-, B, B, C+, C+
Grade 10: A, A, B, B, B-, B-, B-, B-, C+

But I think that the classes at my school are really difficult. And I always wonder... Am I actually screwing myself by going to my private school instead of the public school?

I'm pretty sure this post sounds pompous... and I don't mean for it to. I'm just really, really curious. Do you think that your school (whether it's private or public) is hard?

I mean... Both public schools that I went to... I had straight A's and was in the top 5%. However... At my current school... I might be in the top 50%. And even then... I'm not sure... It's just that much harder and so much more competitive grade-wise.

But maybe I just went to crappy public schools. =/

I go to a public high school, and it’s pretty challenging. If you don’t study for some classes, you will fail. Reviewing for 10 minutes will also result in an F depending on the class.

I get what you mean. What you should do is see what colleges other people that have similar grades that are from your school have gone to. That should give you a decent estimate of where you are.

And if I didn’t study for all of my classes (even health)… I would fail. Guaranteed. Love my school.

My school is the same way - it’s hard to maintain high grades depending on the classes you take. In recent years, they have this ridiculous rule where for EVERY [regular] single class you take, the teachers has to assign you homework every day for a minimum of 20 minutes. (for AP classes - forgot about it). I have 8 classes throughout the year (6 class/day), so it adds up to a quite a bit and it’s really time-consuming and not to mention tedious when you get papers to write for classes like phys. ed and etc.

The curriculum tends to be pretty rigorous as well - every class is either honors or AP.

I like PickUp’s way of comparing the hardness of classes. Everyone I know at my school finds most of college equally or less challenging and most people have about the same GPA.
One of my friends had just come to my school in her senior year and she was like “Wow, you guys do so much work!” And all of us said “Really? We thought this was normal.” What I mean is that it’s difficult to say that a school is hard because in many cases, the students have only experienced the work load there and they’ve accepted it as the norm. You, AUGirl, went to two other schools, so you have something to compare your new school too. The only school I can compare my high school to is my elementary school.

To me, no, but most students freak out over things like the way a teacher grades. I guess I adjust quickly, and I don’t complain much b/c I’m at school to learn and to obtain a better future. Complaining about a few extra math problems won’t help at all. It’s all about learning and bettering yourself. Most kids at my school are lazy and drop out of IB.

By most standards, my school is probably easy unless you’re taking AP’s. Most of the AP teachers are hard, with a few exceptions (mostly the history AP teachers).

It’s kind of too easy to get into AP, though. Especially this year, the AP classes are really large. I have to wonder if everyone will stay.

Our senior class started our freshman year off with about 100+ IB kids. Now there are only 47 of us, including myself, and not all of us are IB Diploma candidates.

My school is ridiculously easy. The teachers teach straight to the AP exams (which are easy) and just give out busywork. Every class has a bunch of idiots, and the teachers just teach down to them.

my school is private and consistently sends more than 25% of each class to the eight ivy schools. i just try to outperform everyone around me. i don’t care how hard it is. most people think their school is hard, anyway(unless they have a 4.0 uw like many on cc).

to be a little more descriptive. My school is probably average. As noimagination said, my school also has a bunch of idiots in our AP and honors classes. Teachers tend to then teach down to their level so that they will understand it. It is actually very sad. Not all teachers do this. Some classes are actually very difficult and require effort: like AP Calculus, Physics, English, etc. My Physics teacher is actually also a college professor and he said he will teach AP Physics like a college course. We do many of the same labs and assignments that his college class does.

I always thought the people in my school were top-notch until I came on CC. Now I have downgraded them to average.

What’s great is when our (probably) Valedictorian is the kid who only takes 3 honors/APs a year because we only get weight for 3.
