I just want a major that leads to a stable, lucrative profession. I’ve chosen the path of medicine, but now I’m starting to doubt the decision. Can one get in and excel in a medical school without much interest in the sciences, care for others’ well-being, or even will to ram my face into the books, researches, and internships?
I’m on my second quarter of my second year, Chemistry major. I recently realized my mistake to attempt to be edgy and not major in Biology (which would be more focused and easier for me), but it was too late. My GPA dropped, from mid 3 to high 2, I still haven’t started on MCAT cramming, I wasted hundreds of dollars and hours on an unpaid “volunteering internship” that yields only a letter of recommendation, I’ve lost most of my interest on the subject, my whole motivation for going to med school is a good, stable income in the future, I’m not at all confident in my ability to “work harder” to bring it all back up, I don’t have to time and money to delay my graduation, and I know upper division is only going to be harder.
Am I in too deep to keep trying for medical school? Or am I in too deep to drastically switch to something common like business? Or neither? Why? Please offer this drowning student a hand, thank you.
Hm. Sorry to hear we lost another good doctor.
Yep, a lot of people like myself want to become doctors just for $. Medical school is no easy feat. It’ll be pure torture. if you decide to go down that path.
There are other professiobs that generate a good stable income, which don’t involve the huge schooling expense & time commitment of medicine.
Going into medicine just for the money is like getting married just for home cooked meals.
Other professions such as? Also considering I’m nearly half way until graduation, how much likely am I going to make it without delaying graduation?
^Hahahahahaha - no. Teachers work way more hours than the school day. Infinitely more. Teachers also don’t really have summers off - those are for developing curriculum, professional development, second jobs, teaching summer school, etc. Don’t become a teacher for money. You won’t make enough. Have you ever looked at the teacher section of a school parking lot? Yeah, not exactly the most luxury cars ever. Besides, a teacher that isn’t passionate about students is almost always awful. They become disillusioned and leave gaps in student education.
I agree with the fact that not professors, teachers, deserve much more pay for their work and definitely is not a lucrative career. But the UPS driver is pretty interesting. This is good, please keep the ideas coming.
