Has anyone else on this board had a discrepancy in dealing with DoDMERB? Let me explain. I have applied for NROTC, AROTC, and West Point. My waiver to West Point was granted, and my waiver for AROTC was not. I don't understand how one could be accepted and the other denied. They're the same military branch. I sent a letter to Cadet Command asking for a review of my file based on the discrepancy. Anyone else have this problem?

I believe it is up to the people at the seperate academies and ROTCs to determine if you're medically qualified. A person that I know who now goes to USNA was granted a medical waiver for USNA but not for USAFA. Go figure.

Two issues -

The standards are different on particular conditions (most notably vision).

The decision to grant a waiver is not just based on medical facts, but on the need of the academy/ROTC for that particular candidate. For example, Navy's vision waiver pool is very competitive, as the USNA's total class is allowed a much lower % of vision waivers than the USMA's class. Even if you qualify for a waiver for Navy, they may not bother going through the process if they don't think you'll be strong enough for an appointment. I'm guessing that USAFA ROTC has different standards for tech vs non-tech, for example.
