Does a letter of recommendation from a professor improve transfer chances?

Please tell me

It is almost certainly necessary for transfer anywhere that is not a community college.

Since the school I am applying to doesn’t require letters of recommendation, how helpful would it be for me to ask a professor to write one? By the way, it is a public university that I am applying to (ranked in the top 75).

If you think you can get a solid recommendation, then I can’t see why it would hurt.

any more help?

The UC system specifically discourages applicants to send letters of recommendation. In this case, yes, it will hurt if you send one because it means you’re not understanding their simple requests. however, some colleges (like UCLA School of Engineering) do ask for one. But they will ask for it in the application.
not sure which schools you’ll be applying to, others may want to look at a letter or two :)

I am transferring to a large state university.
