Does a Major Limit Your Opportunities?

I ask because I attend an art/design school and my major will be fashion design. My issue with fashion design is that I don't know how employers that aren't necessarily hiring a designer, look at a degree in fashion.

For example if i wanted to go into a career in advertising or public relations or maybe even wokring for a magazine, would a d egree in fashion design be looked upon it negatively?

I mean the ideal thing would be to major in communication design, but for me it's like fashion is what i want to major in now. it's not necessarily what i want to pursue a career. I just don't want to be limited by the whole you're a fashion designer, and that's the only thing you can do.

So i guess if i wanted to pursue a masters degree in a field unrelated to fashion, but that can still open up doors in other industries in case i get bored or dont want to be in the fashion industry, what major would that be?

ummm..i think that you should continue your fashion makor but get a masters degree (or two) maybe your MBA (that always leaves many doors wide open) and a masters degree in communication/journalism (magazine, newspaper, or broadcast?) would be good from what i read above (your intrests and carrer intentions) Good luck!

that's what i was thinking, to pursue a masters in either communications(public relation/journalism) but preferarbly in Business! Although I know MBA's require work experience, and I"m not sure if fashion Design experiance would count, or if they'd take my fashion design degree seriously.

do masters programs in communication immediately take in graduating undergrads or would you need experiance as well?
