I have a lot of free time this summer, and I was planning on picking up a few volunteering gigs. (Lunch service at food kitchen, walking dogs at humane society, and helping at an inner city church). The church volunteering would likely flow into the school year where I would hold a tutoring position along with other activities, but I dont think my schedule would work with the humane society and food kitchen during the school year. Does adding 3 volunteering gigs this late in the process make me look desperate? I would be lying if I said I had no interest in building my application, but I truly am interested in all 3 of these opportunities. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Many people do things for just one summer, and why not fill your time with something that also helps other people / animals? I don’t think it will be held against you unless you try to write or talk about how much you love serving others based only off this summer.
If you like community service - do it!
If you’re concerned about looking desperate, you don’t have to mention it on your application. You could list it as a summer activity, though.
