Does Alabama have a "Luke" for NMF?

DS21 went down to check out UCF and was blown away by the personalization of the tour and the overall experience. The director of the scholars program, Luke, set up an amazing day. He got a great feel for how his particular program is set up, the intership and research opportunities, and what he can expect the next four years to look like. Kid couldn’t help but compare it to his experience at UA where we took a generic tour. Before he makes his final decision, we’re hoping to get a better look at UA. Is there someone like Luke for the NMF at UA?

My daughter is NMF and we had scheduled a tour at Alabama but unfortunately had to cancel. I would get in touch with your regional recruiter who will set up a specific tour for your son. Ours set up an incredible day for our daughter…we were looking forward to it. The tour included both academic and student life tours…

Perfect. Thank you!

I believe that there is only one “Luke” for NMF nationwide. That has been my experience since 2016.

When we were at UA the summer of ‘19, we had a meeting with someone from the Honors College and two separate meetings with undergraduate advisors in two departments that were of interest to my son. The one adviser was also a professor and that was one of the best interactions of all the visits that we did. I am always a little skeptical about people whose job it is to sell something. If you want to lean about a new car, talk to the mechanic not the salesperson.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding your comment, but if this was skepticism directed at Luke’s role, my opinion is that it is misdirected. The tour Luke set up for us (prior to COVID) included a meeting with someone from the Burnett Honors College (in our case, the assistant dean), faculty from the student’s chosen academic area, current National Merit Scholars (we met three), lunch in a dining hall, a tour of campus in a golf cart, a tour of the Honors LLC dorm, and a meeting with Luke to go over UCF’s scholarship program. It was far and away the most informative and well-rounded tour we experienced.

No, no skepticism at all! Luke is amazing at his job. I was just wondering if Alabama had a point person for NMF like UCF does. It sounds like our regional recruiter for UA is the right point of contact to try to set up a comparable tour.

Edited: Oh wait. I see you were responding to Eeyore. My bad.

This is very similar to the type of tour ds received at UCF. Luke set up an amazing day full of interactions with students, professors from his program of interest, and the honors college.
