Does an EFC of 0 = Full Tuition Covered?

Hi, I am a NJ resident and got into PSU University Park, Rowan University, and Rutgers University.
My EFC is 0 because my parents only make about 18k a year.
My SAT score was 1900 and my unweighted GPA is 3.5, weighted is 3.8. I am also Latino, none of my family members have attended college before.

Based off calculators, PSU’s estimated cost was 37k, Rowan was 3k, and Rutgers was 5k. Now I am not sure if these are accurate.

Will my tuition be covered, and if not, will I have a small gap like the calculator says for Rowan? I am highly interested in attending Penn State, but from the looks of it, I do not think I will be able to.

You are an Out of State student for Pnn State.,this means you would be paying OOS coats which are almost double in state. And your need will not be met there. Ther first obligation is to students who are residents of Pennsylvania.

With an EFC of $0 your guaranteed aid is a $5775 Pell Grant, and a $5500 Direct Loan. So…just over $11,000 in aid is guaranteed but half is loans. Does NJ have loan programs for low income students?

Are you able to commute to Rowan? Is that why the net cost is only $3000?

None of these schools guarantee to meet full need. As you can see…Penn State is going to be unaffordable…unless their net price calculator is very inaccurate.

It sounds like the two NJ schools are in the right ball park, and could be affordable if you have a job, or can commute to one of them.

can you copy paste the NPC results?

Sounds like Rowan and Rutgers have a low cost because the NPCs are showing: NJ state grant, Pell Grant, Direct student loan, Perkins Loan, and maybe a SEOG loan.

No…a 0 EFC does NOT mean tuition is covered. The feds can’t order schools to give students money.

@thumper1 The reason the price was $3,000 was because I was awarded about $20,000 in scholarships, and the TAG grant as well as a couple others I may be forgetting.

Excellent! Can you earn $3000 by doing some work now, and during the summer…and can you work about 10 hours a week during college? This could work for you if you can!

And if your award doesn’t yet include the Direct Loan, you can take $5500 in that as well.

Is the Pell Grant included?
