Does anybody have info or experience with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)???

It has been my top school for awhile and I was excited about it because it seemed fun but now I am looking at all the reviews and for the most part they seem to suck! People are saying that the social scene is horrible and everyone plays on their laptops in MMORPGs all the time and there's nothing to do around there. I visited and was excited with the two malls and a walmart nearby, but these reviews seem to horribly kill things for me and I have been worrying all day about it because my other schools are all safeties. Can somebody give me a review or something about it?

I am great at math and I love to hang out, but I also like anime and things similar to it. The girl to boy ratio is bad but people make it seem like everyone in it is a nerd and nobody has any life! That can't possibly be true can it??

I was interested in taking Japanese in the school but they dropped foreign language so I'll have to settle for self teaching

Hopefully some current RPI students will reply to your post but I can offer comments about my son’s experience at RPI. He is finishing his third year there, majoring in chemical engineering. He seems to love it there - has made great friends, plays three intramural sports throughout the school year (even learned to skate so he could play intramural ice hockey), has been involved in a club etc. He has not pledged a frat but frats do sponsor activities and parties that non-frat members can go to. The workload can be intense, but I think most of the students figure out how to balance hard work with fun. I know my son finds time to go off campus with friends to restaurants, concerts, and yes, occasional mall or Walmart runs. He really does not have much free time for video games but probably plays them sometimes. He just enjoys hanging out with his friends, they always find things to do. From observation I have found that most of the RPI students I have met are very smart, talented and focused. Nerdy is not really the word that comes to my mind. My recommendation to you is to make sure you visit campus and perhaps do an overnight stay with a current student if it can be arranged. You will get a much better feeling for the place that way than reading reviews which may not be balanced.

People are awesome here; in fact, they’re too awesome. This causes me to have very little free time after academics, clubs, and fraternity work. Seek people out and the rest will come naturally.

Well that actually helps a ton, I’m surprised I couldn’t even sleep because I was worrying, that’s a first. Anybody have any other feedback? Thanks for replying!!!
