Does anyone dislike anything 'bout YALE?

Is there anything people generally do not like about Yale?.......

hmm... well nothing for me personally, but a lot of people don't like new haven itself...

The secret societies worry me.

Yeah! It's so hard to get into! Other than that it's perfect...

The cost is ginormous.

I'll tell you what I have not liked about Yale. I do not like the relationship it has with the people of New Haven, even those who work at the school. Having seen wonderful relationships between a school and its neighbors, a school and its employees, I feel this is an area that Yale needs to improve.

Oh, and as a huge band nerd, I wish they had a real marching band instead of a scatter band.

haha....I'm a band nerd too! My interview was telling me about Yale Precision Band or something and she was explaining that theyre really cooky but at the same time they sound really good. I dont know if i want to play an instrument in college though...depends on how i feel i guess.

One compaint I've heard is that there are too few women professors, especially in the sciences and social sciences.
Town/gown relations are getting better, although still can improve. My D is involved with a few town activities, (political campaign, volunteer at a local church, and at Peabody Musuem as a docent for schoolchildren), as are many students. Recent negotiated agreement should help the labor situation for a while, at least within the university.
Sometimes all of the energy from the amazing student body can be just a little too much - one needs to step back from time to time for grounding.

it's not as good as princeton

Yale is like going in-state HYP. If that makes any sense.

One thing I dislike about Yale and some of the other Ivy's (i.e. Harvard), is how disconnected they are with the real world, or modern world. Schools like Stanford, MIT, Cal-Berkeley, and even Princeton seem to be more active in that sense. The schools are very alive, constantly innovating and changing themselves to reflect the current times and times to come. Ive gotten the impression (now more so then ever with Harvard's current President and Yale's lack of involvment in its own community) that Yale and Harvard are relics, living off a legacy and enormousment endowment that have not kept pace with other schools of supposidly equal caliber...I know there will be counter examples to points I make though (as will always be the case with anything), but exceptions don't represent a trend either.

lol enco.

I guess I dislike New Haven. And the workload at yale is kind of intimidating.

How "intimidating" is Yale's workload, and how does it compare with Harvard/MIT? Are there lots of problem sets at Yale, and are the assignments really hard, especially for the sciences?

How much sleep do Yale students get on the average?

well, i think how 'intimidating' the workload at yale completely depends on the person and what classes they pick. For the most part, non-physics/math classes usually have fewer problem sets that contribute minimally to your final grade. In fact, I think its safe to say that in most classes assignments can be considered almost completely optional.

I'm taking 4 upper level science classes, participating in a varsity sport, and starting up an organization on campus, among many other things. I still find time to usually get 6-8 hrs of sleep most nights.

What is so bad about Yale's environment?

i was acosted by hobo's after less than 30 mintues in new haven - quite the experience, and this was on a sunday at 1 pm.

I dont like the fact that Yale rejected me :(

So, it's in a ghetto neighborhood? How is the campus itself?

(I've never visited Yale, only surfed its website for endless hours. I just want a more realistic understanding of the campus and neighborhood)

the campus of yale is very beautiful and very safe. the surrounding neighborhood sometimes seems sketchy, but again, is very safe as long as you practice common sense that would be required in any other city.
