instead of those clothes, you could’ve seen Paris, Rome, and Berlin.

Just something to think about.

$100 on underwear? You are insane. It’s not like your Calvins will help you get girls, dude.

I avoid going out often because whenever I do I usually see something that I like and I’ll want to buy it. However, there’s NO WAY I would spend $800 in one day on something I didn’t need. Almost everything I buy has to be on sale. I’m so frugal it’s not even funny.

You really need to learn to exercise some self-control. Spending so much money in such a short period of time is crazy. And from the sound of it, you aren’t even getting good deals. You’re being ripped off. If it’s your parents’ money you’re spending, I think that makes your shopping sprees even worse, particularly if your parents are paying for you for college.

Just glancing back at this thread, I caught the first sentence and I just wanted to re-post it.

LOL. You really don’t sound like the type of person who has to watch their $.

People tend to have a much harder time paying in cash than swiping a check/credit card. So stop carrying plastic when you go out. And get a filter for your web browser to block the sites where you shop the most.

Yes. Especially online shopping- its addicting. But I’m kind of semi-frugal. I would never buy $100 underwear or a $3000 laptop- thats ridiculous. I shop for bargains.

It depends on how much you make and how realistic your spending is to that income. I spend at least $1000 a month on randon things but its hardly anything compared to my monthly income. Maybe she/he makes a lot? Over spending is only a problem when you spend more than you have or more than what’s is realistic for your income.

I am not even frugal, I am cheap. But i am also a shopaholic.

When I go somewhere and see clothes I have to grab stuff and try it on.

Then if something is on sale I will find my self buying it.

I have a ridiculous amouunt of clothes and so much shoes i have given away some to my sisters.

No one likes to go shopping with me, I shop for hours.

Everytime I buy anything now a days I feel guilty.

But what i do is use cash, and only carry about 20, and I also keep the receipt. So if I feel guilty enough I can return them.

But does anyone know the feeling of excitement that you get when you walk into a store filled with new shoes and clothes jsut waiting to be tried on?

I know i sound crazy…

My roommate, dropped out of college because (I believe), he was spending a lot with computer stuff and he didn’t have financial aid too. His parents got ****ed that he would use the loan money to buy the stuff, so they cut him off.

I’m so upset! I’m not buying $300 underwear, but I have managed to spend maybe… $700 in the one week I’ve been here! Granted, $400 went to books, which I told my parents I would pay for. But the other $300…gone. And now I have barely $400 left to last me an entire year.

It’s just that NYC is so flipping expensive! I know my parents will send me money if I really need it, but I’m tired of using their money. I’m also tired of watching my funds get lower and lower, with no way of being replaced. I’m really considering getting a job even though they have refused to allow me to do so my freshman year…

I am quite certain the original poster was not serious although if it spurs a discussion I guess there is no harm done. I only say that because the taking of the taxi and the purchase of the underwear are so over-the-top that it seems as though they were only included for comedic effect which calls into question the sincerity of the whole post.

As for the question, I too am somewhat guilty of this sin.
I know that when I am upset with myself for not having studied enough, I will often go online and purchase more books in the subject I neglected to study! I guess this is because I am so dissatisified with the progress I have made towards reaching my goal that I buy things that I hope will compensate for my laziness. I don’t know how to account for such illogical behavior besides attributing it to sheer desperation. I mean if you were determined at the start of the day to study calculus for 5 hours, but wound up only studying it for 1 hour it is really very difficult to feel good about yourself without resorting to something like purchasing some unnecessary calculus guide. What else can you do to obtain immediate relief from those negative feelings?

But I don’t think that is the same reason you are prone to making unnecessary purchases. You seem to suffer from a more basic, gross lack of self-control.

I spent 2000$ on a TV, sound system and table for the TV
I spent 1000$ this weekend on alcohol, clubs and stripclubs
I spent 70,000$ on a car
I spent 1000$ on a suit
I spent 500$ on a belt
I spent 1000$ on a chain and bracelet
I spent 1000$ for my semesters clothes

all this in the last 3 weeks for college prep. Not like I’m gonna keep spending like this, I’m just saying though
I don’t think OP’s spending habits are that bad… unless s/he can’t pay for it obviously

everyday on my mind is the $7.50 i pay per meal eating at school…
i eat on average 2.1 times a day…

but mean plans must be paid in full so i pay premium , and not having a car makes it difficult to buy groceries.

Um…what?

*** kind of car did you get?

And btw, I remember you from another thread. You’re going to drop all that money on pointless, overpriced crap, but you won’t pay for your date’s dinner? Somehow I call BS or you’re a prick IMO.

Let’s not doubt him with his $70k car. that’s what ■■■■■■ want on these forums. They want people to doubt/get jealous. (My 335i just got vishnu chipped. Doubt hes faster

and btw. you have to spend money to make money.
