I am a student from China and will enter U of Waterloo to pursue my PHD degree in theoretical physics. I also get offers from Stanford and UT Austin, but I declined both of them, due to the fact that Waterloo is extremly excellent at theoretical physics.

I would like to know whether Waterloo is a good school in the eyes of the Americans. If I graduate from Waterloo, how much the chance I can go into IB?
Thanks a lot.

Well there’s a lot of people with quantitative degrees in IB. He can be part of the next LCTM fiasco.

But I’m also wondering if people have heard of University of Waterloo in the US, because I’m considering doing an engineering degree there and later pursuing a career in IB or consulting.

if you are smart and if you want to be a quant then you have a decent chance (although i would choose stanford anytime). if you do not want to be a quant, you are wasting your time.

for quant, you should try to do a financial engineering masters after your phd. cmu, ucb and stanford are very good. also you should know some programming.

I do theroetical physics at a PHD level because I love physics.

I want to be a quant after I get Phd and do one post-doc work. I am skilled at programming and recieved offers from Mcrosoft, google etc. when I was a senior student. I also get offers from several consulting companies, including Bain.
