Does anyone here actually have to try in high school?

I hate my school. Some Honors courses are harder than the AP courses.
No one in my school has ever gotten even close to a perfect GPA.

This year, I’m going to work my effing butt off. This is the year that defines my future. Seriously.

The honors and AP teachers are often really adept at what they do, and the students are generally interested in the subject.

So yeah, I try.

I try in high school:) In some of my classes, everyone really has to try though, my school doesn’t offer too much extra credit:(

I thought my Calc BC class was very hard.

Other than that, pretty much. Most math classes have lots of homework but that doesn’t really mean they’re hard.

Not really. I do my homework, listen in class, study for tests when I need to, and I do fine. No falling asleep, or throat slashing.

It’s been like that for every year, where I literally didn’t do a single assignment at home (finished majority at school, some I didn’t bother to care), tests were easy (in general), never spent time on schoolwork, chilled daily, etc; where I could mostly get away with A-'s at least. Apparently I didn’t care much, if at all, about school and academics and the like and barely did any work. Obviously, my school isn’t the most advanced school out there, although it is somewhat proficient and competitive.

This year as a junior though with 5 AP’s 1 Honors, the most I can take for my school atm (in b4 “i take 9 AP’s, self-study 14 and take 24 college courses simultaneously”), and starting to care about academics a bit more, I’m forced to spend about an hour on homework daily at home; I still finish a lot at school in classes and stuff but some leftovers at home when lots of stuff are assigned.

Not hardcore, mind you, just a bit of effort. No more than an hour ish of work daily (sometimes 2), less sleeping in classes/paying attention a bit more, and rest of the time, as before, is devoted to chilling, T.V, computer, sports, hanging out, movies, music, etc.

And I never get any less than 8 hours of sleep a day, which will probably never change at least until the end of HS. I used to get 10-12 even on schooldays; I simply like sleep.

Dang, I wish my school was easier. Pretty much everyone works pretty hard to get good grades at my school. There are a few natural geniuses, that don’t have to try too hard, but I can count them on one hand.

I get like at least an hour of APUSH homework a night, most of the time its more like two.
Pre-calc takes awhile, especially when my teacher makes up worksheets.
And Spanish 3 is like downright impossible. It’s an honors class and the teacher does does not give that much hw, but the tests are like impossible, so you have to study every day. We got our first test back today. 1 kid got a 90, 2 kids got B’s, and the rest of us got Cs and Ds, with a couple of Fs. And finishing the test last week, I thought it was easy.

And last year, the natural genius kid(who got a 106 on the chem final b/c of the curve, next highest grade was a B), he got like a 88 on the Spanish final, and my friend who freaks out about Bs was ecstatic to have gotten a 71.

So I personally bust my butt, and so do most kids at my school, but their are a few natural geniuses that can handle it really well. The one kid I was talking about with chem, got like a 1420 on the SAT in 7th grade…well I guess that is pretty average for CC standards, lol
