Current GPA is 3.2 on a 4 scale
26 on ACT
Class rank is right at 50%
All regular classes, taking AP bio in senior year.
Except in freshmen and first half of sophomore year, I have been getting all A's and B's.
Plan on attending Iowa State University to major in Aerospace engineering; I also plan on doing the AFROTC program to become an officer in the USAF (hopefully become a pilot).
I have been working at Jewel Osco (grocery store) for about 2 years
Played tennis in freshmen year on JV, since then no EC's besides snowboard club because work takes up my time.
Also, I live in Illinois so I will be an out of state student at Iowa

I was thinking ROTC the whole time I was reading this thread. I really hope you get into USAF! If not that, then at least AFROTC.

Thanks so much for your service! I am about to be a midshipman at Vanderbilt next year. Didn’t apply to the academies; I wanted a more rounded college experience.

You ought to get to work on your academy and ROTC apps right away! They take a ton of time.

Your stats aren’t really high enough for a good shot at any meaningful scholarships.

Since you’ll be out of state for Iowa St, unless you do get into AFROTC, you better have a Plan B because otherwise, Iowa St will be too expensive.

Well we are eligible for a lot of financial aid so ive already confirmed with my parents that we will be able to afford it.

Also, anyone can go into ROTC, not everyone gets a scholarship.

Thanks rupee, I can’t wait to become a part of such an awesome team. It’s hard to explain why I want to join, I guess I feel a sense of pride and honor when I think about being in the military.

Also, ROTC apps don’t take long? Academy apps do but not ROTC. Also, Do you know where I go to do the PFA for ROTC. It is required in order to join. Do I just do it at my school?

Being “eligible” for financial aid does NOT mean that you’ll get it. Most schools cannot meet need. Most put big loans or gaps in aid packages. Don’t assume that your EFC is all that your family will be expected to pay. That’s NOT what EFC means.

What schools are you considering? What is your home state.
