...a college prof? I was thinking (yet again) about what I wanna do, and I thought it seemed interesting? Is there a typical path? If you wanna work at like, HYP, do you have to be a super genius with 12 degrees and gazillions of research papers? Do they get paid well?
Just wondering.

First you'll need a Ph.D. in your field.

Then you need to get A LOT of stuff published everywhere. You are judged by how much stuff you've written in reputable magazines newspapers ect. I helps to get various post secondary degrees, such as a PHD, but also an MBA and whatnot. The main thing one must do is write that disertation (took my dad a very long time), after that you can get jobs, but you'll get better jobs based on how well your name is known.

get a ph.d. then publish some stuff!

It is becoming increasingly difficult to secure tenure, especially in the humanities. Hiring lecturers for 1-3 years is becoming the trend.

Here's a good site for information about all sorts of careers.
