Does anyone reckon applying through consultancies?
How does the process work with them?

Pay money, take advice, make documents and apply. Mostly safety colleges I think.

Pay money, crappy school I-20, visa rejected, college in nepal, regret. Also, haven’t heard the use of Reckon since I last read Dickens.

So should anyone with good grades, good TOEFL, not so good SAT, good essay bother applying through them??

@sixstringsrocker
any chances at Lafayette?

gemsgrad Does your school not help you?

agree with sixthstringsrocker here (even the Dickens part). with good grades, good TOEFL, okay SAT and good essays you can get into nice LACs, though colleges like HYPS and Amherst are hard to get into no matter what. even if you get the visa, you’ll just transfer in a year or two to a better college or live to regret it for the rest of your years. all in all not at all a wise choice.

@eyeamme: in most schools (e.g. mine) the GCs have no idea at all what they’re doing. you’ll have to help yourself for most part.

Best if you dont go thru consultancies. I mean, the application process isn’t that hard anyways. It’s best if you know what’s happening in your application. If you can’t even handle the application to college, how do you expect to make it in college? A “good” student with a good GPA, good essay and everything good should be good enough to handle the application. imo, avoid consultancies.

Transferring to a “better” college: how much better? Is it worth it?

@gemsgrad:
Define “good”. a 2100 might be good for a top 50 LAC but not nearly as enough for an average applicant for a top 10 LAC. It all depends upon what you’re looking for. Look for your “match” even though it’s hard for us to have much choice. Look at college programs that you like and shape your application around it as much as you can. Some colleges place less emphasis on SATs, some require stellar composite scores, for some, GPA matters a lot, and so on.

@User95, ahhhh, I see.
What sixstringrocker said is absolutely true. The college application process is not much of a headache-its sort of ABCD/1234.

^ its nothing complicated. but couple that with school work and impending CIE finals and then it’ll be a migraine. i speak from experience :D

that’s up to how you manage time. Although I have to agree, had I failed the first time, would have been disastrous. My +2 boards went down the drain. but TOTALLY worth it! No gap year, stuff still in your head, classes here easier that would have been.

^good to know. i am feeling like i need more than 24 hours a day right now. :D

@EyeAmMe how do u define helpful? well I’d have to say I knew nothing about the application process from my clg until after graduation.

@sixstringsrocker my SATs are just around 1900’s but thanks for the info.

So, will anyone please suggest some match school based on my stats.
