Does anyone "regular" get into top tier schools like HYPSM and others?

That’s actually true. After CC, I’m still shocked when I hear, “I have a 2000 SAT. I’m set for UVA/Dartmouth/any top 25 USNWR school.”

You are not set with any SAT score at any school. There are other parts of the application you know and you actually have to pass all of your classes to graduate.

Yeah, he sounds like a “regular” guy.

/sarcasm

Well-rounded class != well-rounded individual students

But also well-lopsided individual students

^ Are you agreeing with me? != means NOT equal to.

^Ah then yes, I am agreeing with you

So yea I think I do make the top 10%, and my SAT is 2300, but like you said, do they really take people who don’t have amazing EC’s? I’m not pro at anything, really, like some of the people at our school who are getting recruited for sports or are nationally recognized at math or something. So they actually do take relatively, “normal” people? Doesn’t seem like many people on CC agree to that, but it could be that CC isn’t a representative sample of the people that the “elite, elite” schools accept.

I actually got the impression that only super people get into those schools by asking as many people as I could in real life. Was just seeing if CC was any different, haha.

How many people did you ask? You need to ask like thousands and thousands of people.

To everyone:

Keep posting what you think. It is all very interesting. To be clear, I don’t really care that much about getting into those so-called “elite” schools like HYPSM. It’s not like college is my life. BUT, I did want to know if it is even worth the money (and effort) to try.

That would be interesting to see the results, but asking thousands of people doesn’t seem like a particularly fun/practical thing to do. =) I guess CC is the closest we can get to that.

It is only worth the money if there is a particular school you are interested in and would be happy to attend knowing that you will have a good experience. That is something you have to find out on your own not by listing to random people on CC. And just because CC is the closest thing we have does not mean it will be accurate.

Yes that is true, but there also has to be at least a remote chance of acceptance.

Yes, they do. Again, if you look at the results threads, you will see accepted people with very good stats, but no super-impressive ECs. Most of them have at least some ECs, of course.

^Especially at HYPSM, when a number of applicants have excellent stats, they’ll look at the ECs to differentiate them all…haha
