Does Anyone See a Hook?

Hey guys

All throughout high school I've prided myself in being a renaissance girl- someone who does a little bit of everything. Sports, theatre, lots of clubs, equally strong in all classes, etc. I'm interested in a myriad of subjects and I really don't know what I want to be. It did not hit me until this summer that my application has no "hook"- no special area where I really excel, no unique character they can see me as. I'm not the "Science Girl" or the "Art Girl" or the "Politics Girl"-my activities seem too scattered. But can anyone see any sort of hook in my activities? I thought perhaps someone else could see something that maybe I can't.

ECs:
-4 years of Theatre (school plays)
-Varsity Softball (2 years)
-National Honor Society (exec. board)
-Junior Statesmen of America (exec. board)
-American Politics Club
-Human Rights Club (hoping to become President/leader of it)
-BBYO (Jewish youth group, exec. board)
-This year as part of a class I am in I will be making a documentary on the Holocaust

I'm pretty equal in all subjects, but senior year I've decided to double up on English classes, taking both AP Lit and Poetry, so I guess English would be the subject that I've taken the most interest in.

I write A LOT (novels) but I've never completed anything except poems and I've never tried to have my work published, except for one poem that was published in a book freshman year. It should be noted, however, that this not a big accomplishment- the book published most of the poems that were sent in.

Does anyone see any sort of hook (or even something that could be turned into a hook)?

How about the leadership hook?

Being a LEADER will probably be your strongest asset and be recognized as so by someone reading your EC's.

No, there's no "hook". That term is thrown around too loosely. If you had a hook, you would know. (Winning a national/international competition, getting published in a scientific paper, being a top athlete in the country, etc).

That said, you have a great set of ECs that will only help you in terms of admission.

Really, a hook that isn't a national level talent (and Harvard rejected an olympic medalist this year) is just athlete, URM, legacy, and development. Most people don't have a hook, which is why a hook is meaningful.

if a big time publisher picks up your book, that'd be a major hook.

you have nothing close to one right now though.

well...when you finish one.

Just make yourself come through the application. There's nothing wrong with having eclectic interests. Too many people get caught up in "the game" of trying to have the perfect GPA, SAT, "hook." You obviously have been dedicated to your ECs.
