Does AP count if exam taken before summer class?

So I am currently a Sophomore and am self-studying to take the Governments and Economics AP Exam's and am wondering if this would get be me 10 points on weighted GPA or 0 points added. I am going to take a Government and Economics class administered by my school in the summer to get the credits over with in order to make room for classes that I personally want to take. I was wondering if I got a 4 or 5 on the exams if they would be able to specify the summer classes in Economics and Government as AP courses for the extra GPA weighted points? Also I am set on taking the AP Exam's, so that will not change. Thanks for any help in advance.

Just because you take the AP tests won’t change the fact that it was a regular class. That’s like me taking regular Chemistry (which I currently am) and self-studying for the AP Chemistry test and asking the school to add the AP label. That’s just really dumb, no offense.

So yeah. I think you wouldn’t get any points.

No. Taking the AP Exam and taking an AP class are completely different. Even though you are taking the exam, you won’t have AP-style essays or AP-style tests nor the workload that comes with an AP class in the summer class. The point of weighting GPA’s is to compensate for the extra workload/difficulty/rigor of the class itself.

You can ask, but I sure wouldn’t expect to get weighted GPA. Taking the exam doesn’t change the fact you took the regular class.

Probably not, but it depends on what your school wants to allow. It’s true that taking an AP class and taking an AP test are two separate things, but my high school gave me a regular class credit for taking an AP test without requiring any classwork at all, so it might be possible. I think you’d have the best chance if you got 5s and those AP courses aren’t offered at your school.

They might not be willing to give you a letter grade, though…they might give you a pass/fail credit, which would be pointless and wouldn’t count in your GPA. Or if you got a 4, the letter grade might be a B.

Btw, weighted GPA only matters for class rank.

My district gives P/NC if you take the CLEP test (yay for $100 tests!)
But yeah, school districts are pretty stupid in recognizing external effort. They like to reward people who sit on the couch all summer long playing video games. (As you can see, I really don’t like my school district policies…)
