Does applying ED here actually hurt you?

<p>I was looking up acceptance rates and the ED acceptance rate was only 22% and the regular decision acceptance rate was around 38%. I don't remember the EA acceptance rate but I think it was around 55%. Can somebody explain to me while the ED acceptance rate is so low?</p>

<p>The average quality of an ED applicant is clearly substantially less than the average quality of a RD applicant. This results in the acceptance rate differential.</p>
