I was pretty sure that applying ED helped you chances of getting into any school because they have few people, and so they can pay more attention to your file, also the percentage of admitted people is a lot higher, however I know that most of the strongest candidates apply under ED, but doesn't it help you?? I would like to know your opinions.!! thank you

Thank you GT alum, I asked the same question in another thread and someone told me that it was highly difficult to be admitted under ED unless you are a legacy or a distinguish athlete!! and I wanted to make sure, I know It wouldn’t be extremely different but I have always thought that it would be slightly easier. However, I don’t know that if as Williams ended it’s need-blind policy toward internationals, then it wouldn’t be good for me to apply ED as I’m also applying for aid, but I’m not sure, Does anyone knows about this?? thank you!

Unfortunately, I don’t think ED is a good option for international students at Williams as you are treated differently for financial aid.

As for whether or not it helps, I have heard one Williams admissions officer say it was definitely a help and another say it makes no difference.

I would check with the specific schools about aid. I know I spoke with admissions officers at Brown and UPenn and they told me that if I applied ED and did not get enough aid, they would release me to apply to other schools. Otherwise they would be giving an advantage to the economically secure students, which they don’t really want to do. My advice - call them and then get it in writing.

I absolutely detest students who apply to a university ED based on the assumption that they will have an “edge up” on other students. ED should be done for one reason and one reason only, which is that the school you are applying to is your first choice and that you are committed to that school. The ED pool is more self-selecting, with athletes, legacies, and other outstanding students. It wouldn’t be less competitive than the RD round.
