Does asking the admissions office questions reduce your chances of admissions?

I heard that colleges track communication through email and phone calls. But what does it take for them to get annoyed. Can asking too many questions hurt you? I communicated with my dream college quite a bit

I think it probably depends what you are reaching out about. If your questions are easily found on their website or in admissions materials, that might be annoying.

Are they responding to your questions? Yes is a good sign, but don’t overdo it. If no, please see last question.

Are you someone they are particularly keen to recruit? If yes, just don’t overdo it. If no, see below.

Are the answers easily found on the website? If yes, you’re overdoing it. Stop, unless you have a particular question for which the answer isn’t easily found on the website. If no, feel free to ask, but wouldn’t it be better to put all your questions into one email?

Let go of the dream school idea. And if the college tracks interest, you’ve probably shown enough, or too much, by now. If the college doesn’t track interest, you’re quite possibly annoying them. You can check if the college considers demonstrated interest by checking section C7 on the college’s Common Data Set. Just Google it.

You need a balanced list of colleges to apply to. Getting into a dream school is a bonus.

Does your college or department have any life webinars that you can attend? If so, you can ask questions during those.
