Does being a loser Youtuber count as an EC?

I know this question has been asked before but I’m in a “unique” situation.

Unlike most CCers who arent sure about including Youtube on their app, I don’t make personal videos, makeup tutorials, educational videos, arts & craft stuff. I make really dumb meme videos… Idk how to explain what I do, but if youve seen those dumb videos where they take words Obama has said and remix it in to the Pokemon theme song? Thats kind of like the genre of videos I make.

I have over a hundred subscribers and one of my videos has over a thousand views, but thats pretty much it. I’m pretty unknown. Idk whether or not I should include it, bc I actually rly enjoy it as an ec. But the fact that I enjoy might make me appear kinda antisocial and boring (which i totally am lol) to admission ppl…

Should I include it? and if yes, in EC or additional info?

Thanks guys!!

I would not include it.

"Should I include it? "

A definite NO.

I think not

No

A thousand views and a hundred subscribers isn’t really that impressive, but I am glad you enjoy it anyway. Should I list that I am a CC junkie with over 3000 posts and nearly the same amount of “likes”? No.

@happy1 @doschicos @greenteen17 @ap012199 @Lindagaf Thank you for the responses! also sorry another question: should I include my instagram page also? its another meme page lol, but it has almost 100k followers.

dont be scared to shoot me down lol. i do it for the enjoyment not college

No, unless you’ve been able to monetize and make money off your social media or are using it to promote some worthy cause, I don’t think it is significant enough to include.

@doschicos You’re definitely more knowledgeable than me, but 100k seems like a lot.
Is your account for something specific (ex. art) or is it just pics of you?

@greenteen17 its a meme account. Memes are basically funny videos/pictures/texts that spread like wildfire on the Internet usually among the younger (13-30 year olds). :)) it sounds very lame right now but I have acquired some insane photoshop skills. Ive had it for like 3 years, so its definitely important to me.

oh I’m so tired that my eyes skipped right over the meme part. Sorry about that. Yeah, I’m familiar with memes - go millenials! I don’t know…the 100k followers sounds really impressive to me.

Maybe you should hit these guys up for an internship

A few comments

  1. It is your application so in the end you should do whatever you feel presents yourself in the best light. It is 100% your call as to if you want to include it or not.

  2. IMO colleges look at ECs to get a sense of what is important to a person, what they do in their free time that could possibly benefit their college community etc. Only a couple of ECs (ex. being a recruited athlete) give one a hook to admission. So for most people things like working to help one’s family, being a good teammate on a sport, being involved in the community, furthering one’s academics etc. is all good. My concern is that including your meme site might give an indication that you go home and sit alone on your computer doing silly things in your spare time. If you have been able to monetize it/ create a small business out of it in any way/taught yourself something important about programming etc. I might feel differently, but if it is just spending a lot of time finding silly pictures and putting captions on, I’d lean against including it. Again, that is just my opinion.

  3. I will say that if you include the site you should check through it very carefully and remove any memes that might come off as offensive, controversial etc. to an admission officer.
