Does being home schooled or going to public school greater/lower my chances or getting into MIT?

I’m in 10th grade and I have been home schooled since 7th due to becoming ill. (not a serious illness or life threatening) I am able to go to public school now and really want to go but I heard that you need to be home schooled all through high school for MIT to count you as a home schooled student. My mother always told me MIT favors home schooled students. Will being home schooled greater my chances of getting into MIT? Would going back to a public Science and Math school look good on a college application if I did go back? I also had the idea of going back to public school but also doing the home school curriculum and work at home, so I can master exactly what I want to learn and know. Please give me advice on what to do, thank you

It is an interesting question. If MIT has any preference for home-schooled students, I have never heard of it. As a rule, MIT is very interested in the decisions that each student takes about their education. Most students don’t really have a say in whether they are home schooled, go to a private expensive school, or to a public (state) school. As such, that is a decision that says a great deal more about the parents rather than the student, and hence is much, much less important to the application than you would think. It is only the student applying to university.

If I do go back to school, should I still do extra work at home? What will make my college application stand out if I am a mixed (home school and public school) student? Thank you for your answer btw, I really appreciate it!
