Is private schooling a dealbreaker?

I'm currently doing my A levels as a private student, after which I want to apply to MIT. (Private = studying at home rather than at a school)

Is there anyone else who studied privately but still got into MIT? Or is this a dealbreaker?

There is a parent of a homeschooled MIT student who is a member here at cc. So, yes it happens.

Oh, cool. How was he able to get teacher recs?

Hi cursingmonk,

There are a number of former homeschoolers at MIT. Recommendations can come from a variety of sources: outside college courses, audited college courses, math circle leaders, homeschool co-op teachers, online teachers, etc. Find people who know you personally and well and who know your academic work.
