does biological engineering have a good job market?

i am a senior and thinking about majoring in biological engineering. but do u tink it will be quite easy to get jobs and stuff? don i have to have like PHD to get some good jobs? are there many job openings for biological engineers? how are the pays compared to other engineering? do yall think it would be better to switch to other engineering?(physical engineering) please be honest. thanks a lot~~

pretty much any engineering major has a good job market....my advice is that if you are picking the major because of the job market you should reconsider.

any more input???

Well, according to average pay after graduation, BioEngineering students receive the least (or one of the least) after graduation. ChemE, Electrical, Comp etc receive a higher salary on average. I think a lot of BioEng students plan to do medicine later. But still, I say, Do what you enjoy and if u're not sure what you enjoy go in as undecided.

yes, many plan to do medicine later but little succeed. Biomedical engineering (or bioEngineering) is still a relatively new field; it is a combination of several different types of engineering. So you get a little bit of electrical, mechanical (motion and whatnot of the human body), and material science (for developing new stuff such as artificial limbs). My take on majoring in BME is that after one is done with the program, one knows only the basics of each engineering discipline and is focused solely on BME material. Basically what I am trying to say is that BME is an offshoot from the physical sciences and engineering. The job market then is very limited. I was a prospective BME major at my school (and still am), but I am in the process of swtiching to a physical engineering (chemical to be exact).

ohhh i see. im thinking about changing into some other physical engineering. like mechanical or electrial or something.

Depends on the school. Some specialize you more, others give you a general BME training. The ones that specialize more usually have better job placement and higher starting salaries.

hmmm... i see but i guess there is a small job market for bio engineering than other types of engineering?? wat are some highest paying engineering and lowest paying engineering?
