Does Cal Poly consider the rigor of their applicants' high school curricula?

I go to a private high school with very high academic standards. I had to work like crazy to get a cumulative GPA of 4.3. I have friends at some of the neighboring public schools who were able to get GPAs of over 4.0 without even lifting a finger because their classes are so easy.

So when it comes to my Cal Poly application, will I be viewed in the same way as a person who has a 4.3 from a school with lower academic standards, or will I be recognized for coming from a school with high standards?

Ya they put a lot of weight on the rigor of your curriculum. You are in good shape my friend

Rigor is very important to Poly, but they score it in a very simple way. In effect, you get extra points for taking more core classes than the minimum required, especially in science and most importantly in math. They make no distinction for the difficulty within your respective high school.

With that said, your experience will serve you FAR better that your friends’ who skated by. You’ve already learned how to study and be successful. They will get a bit of a surprise.

I think they know the rigor of hs school districts. In our county the 2 top school districts have the most kids at CP.
