Does Cal Poly Pomona have a good CS program?

Would it be hard for someone with a 3.9 weighted GPA to get admitted

CPP admits by CSU capped weighted GPA and test scores.

Is your capped weighted CSU GPA 3.9? What are your test scores?

do they use the GPA as UC’s? If so that is my capped and I have a 1400 SAT

The capped weighted UC GPA = CSU GPA.

So they admit by eligibility index and major so your EI is (3.9 x800) + (1400)= 4520 which is competitive for CS at Cal Poly Pomona.

They have a very good CS program. School name means little when it comes to CS jobs. Employers are more interested in your job skill set so make sure you look for those summer internships to enhance your academics.

The Computer Science Bachelor of Science program features:

  1. Quality instruction in accordance with Cal Poly Pomona’s “learn by doing” philosophy.
  2. Real-life learning situations and project-oriented coursework that transfers seamlessly to industry environments.
  3. Internship opportunities.
  4. Linux and Windows learning laboratories.
  5. Standardized curriculum that meets ABET standards.

would you say this is competitive enough for Cal Poly SLO

SLO is a whole different ballgame. SLO’s CS admit rate is around 6%. They use 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation with the 8 semester honors point cap.

SLO does not list their admit profile averages by major but for the College of Engineering the average SLO GPA was 4.21 and SAT of 1481. You can bet that CS majors had higher than average stats.

thank you! one last one, will I be competitive for UC Irvine

The average UC GPA for UCI is 4.11 I believe, and I’ll assume people going into Bren CS will have GPA averages well beyond that for the most part.

Yes, the program is very good.

with a 3.9/1400 CPP is pretty likely to accept you. CPSLO and most of the UCs will be an uphill climb. You will be on the fence for UCSC but, UCM and UCR will probably take you.

SDSU CSULB and the rest of the CSUs will probably take you (though SJSU is really competitive for CS)
